Sustainability Made Simple

How do we make Sustainability Simple?

Carefully Curated Collection

I have been an Eco Warrioress for a long time. Trying to live and consume more sustainably is a quest that has taken me into many wormholes on the space time continuum. Researching into the night to find eco-friendly tools for life, only to be bamboozled by green-washing and information overload and heading off to bed completely discombobulated.

OR! worse still, ordering something, believing it will bring an end to the relentless use of cling wrap in my home, only for it to be a piece of garbage that ends up becoming waste itself which, ironically, I was attempting to minimize in the first place ARHHHHHH!

So, on sabbatical from my Masters of Sustainable Practice at RMIT, I carefully curated a collection of sustainable tools for everyday life to share with others…That Eco Place was born.

What makes something sustainable?

In 1987, the United Nations Brundtland Commission defined sustainability as “meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”

Sustainability can be tricky. Something may be beautifully made with high quality renewable resources and infinitely reusable but made many kilometres away using high polluting chemicals and child labour.

I like the KISS principle – Keep It Simple Stupid! I use some simple, basic sustainability ideas and apply them to items I choose to stock. The more ticks the better:

  • Reusable
  • Renewable
  • Durable
  • Ethical
  • Low carbon foot print

The Hard Work Has Been Done

I do not stock lots of different brands of the same type of product. I extensively research the different products available, assess them and select the most sustainable option. YOU can rest assured that if it is in my collection, YOU can make a simple sustainable choice. The hardest choice you will have to make is which colour.

In A Nutshell

Many of us strive to live more sustainably. Sometimes, the stress and time constraints of modern life make us feel overwhelmed and it’s all just too hard.

That’s why I have made sustainability simple for YOU.
